The campaign for our hard earned money has begun (I would have said assault but I didn't want to sound too dramatic). Our Sunday paper has a "big book of toys" (since when is an advertisement a book?) from TWO different retailers.
Of course, the boy "read" them. Of course, almost every other page, he would remark "Oh, I want that". Yes, even in the girls' section he found a toy he liked. Said toy, a kitchen set, is "only" over a hundred dollars. He even has a place for it figured out. He told me he was going to put it in our living room, near his toy bin, :).
While I would like to grant his heart's desires, within reason, it is not financially possible for us at this point. The high cost of living in California does not leave much room in our one income family for such expenses. Also, even when we get to a better financial place, I just don't believe in spending that kind of money on toys. In my mind, there are other uses for my dollars (retirement account and special needs trust fund are two that come to mind).
So while the campaign to make me part with my hard earned dollars has begun, I will endeavor to remain firm and say "No". It won't be easy, especially with the barrage of advertisements that are bound to show up but I am determined to hold my ground, :)
How about you? What do you plan to do with this onslaught?
