Pizza And Popcorn Thanksgiving

The celebrations for Thanksgiving are now over. By now, everybody had their fill of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and all the delicious foods that abound during this holiday. Everybody, except us.

This year, I decided to have a non traditional Thanksgiving. No big cooking, no family gathering, no going to friends, just me and the boy at home. Before you all feel sorry for us, don't. There is turkey (and ham) in the freezer that I could have cooked. We did get invited to a friend's house. However, after last year, I decided to change things a bit. As much as I appreciate the reason behind this day and the graciousness of the invite extended to us, I felt it was best to stay away from it all.

The holidays can get overwhelming and stressful for the grown ups. I can't even imagine how it is for the kids, especially for my son. The noise, the crowds, the the hustle and bustle can overload his senses. Add a disrupted routine because of the school break and his already slender hold on his self control diminishes considerably.

So we broke traditions and started new ones. We put up our Christmas tree and all the decorations that we have. We played and watched movies all day. In between, we had pizza and popcorn. In the end, we still had an amazing day. That is a reason to be thankful for.
