When Jeff Goins Called Me A Thief

Before anything else, let me clarify that Jeff Goins DID NOT actually call me a thief, not to my face anyway. I'm referencing a line from his book, Wrecked: When a Broken World Slams into your Comfortable Life

"Instead of raising families or creating culture, we are sitting in our living rooms with our eyes glued to the television, recreating life. We are escapists, cowards and thieves. We hide, occasionally stealing crumbs from the table of those living the good life."

It is something that I can totally relate to, though my medium of escape is not the television. I hardly watch any TV. We don't even have cable.  I escape to Facebook instead. Often. I watch as other people live their lives when I should be living my own.

However, the author emphasizes the need to go beyond living our own lives. It's a big, broken world out there. It's a call to action, to get out of our comfort zones and do something. As he puts it:

"You will have to bear the bear the burdens of others and carry those whose legs can no longer take them where they need to go. You would have to suffer, to endure, to persevere not just for yourself, but for others, and it will be painful."

These are just a couple of the thought provoking ideas in Wrecked: When a Broken World Slams into your Comfortable Life. There are a lot more, for me anyway. It was also interesting how he was quoting Yoda one minute, Jesus the next. It's definitely worth reading, or in my case, listening to. Be prepared though, if you're anything like me, you're going to be doing a lot of pausing and thinking (and writing quotes and thoughts). Most of all, be prepared, much like the tortoise on the cover,  to get your thinking (and hopefully, your doing) turned upside down.
